The Society of Jesus, the largest Roman Catholic religious order, whose members are called Jesuits, was founded by Saint IGNATIUS LOYOLA. Noted for its discipline, based on the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius, and for its lengthy training period of as much as 15 years, the society is governed by a general who lives in Rome. Jesuits do not wear a special habit and are not subject to local ecclesiastical authority. Professed members are bound by a vow of obedience to the pope. The Jesuits began as a group of seven men who as students in Paris took (1534) vows of poverty and chastity. Ordained as priests, they placed themselves at the disposal of the pope, PAUL III, who gave formal approval to the society in 1540. Ignatius became (1541) its first general. The order grew so rapidly that at Ignatius's death (1556) the little band had expanded to nearly a thousand persons. From the first, the Jesuits concentrated on foreign missions, education, and scholarship. Saint FRANCIS XAVIER, one of the original seven, was the first Jesuit to open the East to missionaries; Matteo RICCI and others followed at the court of China. Jesuits established missions throughout Latin America and founded a model commune for Paraguayan Indians. A remarkable account of the Jesuit mission to North America can be found in the Jesuit Relations (1632-73). When the COUNTER-REFORMATION was launched, the Jesuit order was its driving force. During the Council of TRENT, several Jesuits, notably Diego Lainez, served as theologians. Many Greek texts, even early ones spell in Greek words six hundred threescore and six.

Greek character symbols show numerical value, for example "a=1, b=2, g=3, etc. as listed with character name, in the book "A NEW NEW TESTAMENT - INTERLINEAR WITH LEXICON AND SYNONYMS--COPYRIGHT 1897 BY HINDS & NOBLE, NEW YORK CITY", This book plainliy tells number value of each symbol, spelling name, showing different symbols for that characters name. But value of "Stigma" found only in Strong's concordance, and Revelation 13:18 as shown in book described above.

Reinsertion of the symbol "Stigma" moves the position of characters allowing numerical values to become corrected for the POSITION, excepting for the missing 90, and 900. With stigma symbol left out of Greek alphabet the postional value is one less.

WORLD BOOK -----PSALMS, sahmz, is the name of a collection of about 150 Hebrew religious poems in the Old Testament. They are much like hymns. The ancient Egyptians and Babylonians also wrote beautiful psalms, but the Hebrew psalms are considered the most outstanding.

King David is supposed to have written some psalms. As hundreds of years went by, other psalm writers added to his collection. The book of Psalms contains songs of David, Asaph, the Korahites, the "choir director," and others. It can be called an anthology (collection) of Hebrew religious poetry for the period from the days of David throgh the period of the Second Temple.

The book of Psalms is one of the best-known books in the Bible. For more than 2,000 years it has been considered one of the finest pieces of writing about the inner life of man. It tells of his spiritual thoughts and longings, and his feeling toward God. The words and ideas of these poems are beautiftil and inspiring. They describe man's sorrows and joys, loves and hates, gentleness and anger, faith and fear. They are like a mirror in which man sees his thoughts.

There are also some psalms that might be called nature poetry. They speak of the mountains and valleys, the streams and hillsides, and all nature, with deep religious feeling. Psalm 45 is a celebration of a royal marriage. Psalms 120 to 134 are called the Songs of the Ascents, which is supposed to mean songs sung by pilgrims as they went up to Jerusalem. Some of the greater Psalms are 8, 19, 23, 24, 27, 46, 51, 65, 72 90, 103,107, 121, 139, and 145. Perhaps the best known of all the psalms is the twenty-third, which begins, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." This and many other psalms have been set to music and are a basic element in Christian and Jewish worship.

World Book- Acrostic.....The name acrostic is given to Hebrew poems in which the first letters of beginning lines of sections are letters of the Hebrew alphabet in proper order. The most noted of such poems is Psalm 119.

World Book---Ww is the 23rd letter of our alphabet. The letter developed from a symbol used by the Semites, who once lived in Syria and Palestine. They named it waw, meaning hook, and adapted an Egyptian hieroglyphic, or picture symbol. The Romans, who took it from the Greeks, gave it a V shape. They first pronounced it as we pronouce W, but later pronounced it as V. During the 1000's, French scribes doubled the V, as VV, in order to write the Anglo-Saxon letter wen, for which they had no letter in their alphabet. The VV was also written in a rounded form as UU. It later came to be called "double U" in English. Amos 4:2 - that He will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fish-hooks.
